Arrow Pointing Down Podcast Beta
February 18, 2008 1:54 amWelcome, and thank you for participating in the soft launch of the Arrow Pointing Down Podcast! There’s no explicit format yet, and it probably should’ve been encoded it at a lower bit rate, but hey! Fuck it!
This week, Ryan and Jeff ramble pointlessly over Skype about Gatorade, HD-DVD, GDC, and more!

Next week, there’s apparently going to be another show! And maybe another guest! And prizes?
If you have a question for the Arrow Pointing Down Podcast, send it to podcast@arrowpointingdown.com, and you might get it read on the air!
By listening to this podcast, you may be eligible to win hundreds of millions of gold krugerrand. This is a lie!

It’s nice to see you two guys having an enjoyable time. Bringing Alex and Carrie (with stops in by Greg) would make it perfect. But, it’s nice to see you guys back in the swing of things.
One question, When can we expect a new Time Trotters episode?
February 18th, 2008 at 2:09 am
Two of my favorite loud Americans talking about games again. Thank you, sirs!
February 18th, 2008 at 2:58 am
Nice, thanks guys. Great to hear you again!
February 18th, 2008 at 2:59 am

February 18th, 2008 at 3:38 am
Awsome!! Do more!! Do more!!
February 18th, 2008 at 3:42 am
By the way your gamertag picture is exceedingly disturbing sir.
February 18th, 2008 at 3:46 am
Lol. The soda tasting was hilarious.
These collaborations of randomness are great. You should do it more often.
Btw Jeff, you should make a post on your blog about this podcast. I think all Ex-GS dudes should interlink their blog’s in more ways than just the “Friends list” at the right side of the page. So it’s like one big website that consists of different blogs
February 18th, 2008 at 3:50 am
Love it!
February 18th, 2008 at 3:55 am
Downloading it now.
Hey Ryan have you tried audiosurf?
Look me up:
user = Mr.Garcia
February 18th, 2008 at 3:56 am
Yeah I agree, it’s nice to hear you guys podcasting again, obviously as this is just the first in the series there are some issues, especially with mass difference between the quality of your mics lol.
Even so your content is as solid as always and I can’t wait for more ^_^
February 18th, 2008 at 4:03 am
Awsum this is great. you rock keep up the good job and i hope APD becomes a comunity.
February 18th, 2008 at 4:37 am

February 18th, 2008 at 5:02 am
Damn I can’t wait!
I KNOW this is gonna be killer….you are guys are sorely missed at GS. It’s awfully wicked that this podcast is happening. Could this be a prelude to bigger things yet to come? o_0
February 18th, 2008 at 5:15 am

We are looking forward for a gaming website that we can trust.
Any news on this?
;-0))
Regards from Italy
February 18th, 2008 at 6:25 am
Yay at last – the crew is starting to come together!
Downloading this one to listen to after work but I do hope it becomes a regular (weekly even) feature.
It’d be terrific to hear you guys getting back to what you do best … now just get on and recruit Rich, Alex and Greg please!
Here’s to the Future

February 18th, 2008 at 6:45 am
Dude, Lethal Weapon 2 is easily the second best Lethal Weapon movie. Menacing South Africans FTW. Also, it is good to see you guys keeping it tight.
February 18th, 2008 at 7:12 am
My work day just got a little brighter. Thanks, dude.
February 18th, 2008 at 7:33 am
Thank Heavens you guys are back on a podcast of any kind.

Prepare to have a huge audience soon!

February 18th, 2008 at 7:51 am
New on Late Night TV, it’s The Arrow Pointing Down Show with your hosts Gerstmann and Davis! Tonight’s guests include Peter Molyneux, the guys from Audisurf and special performance by Aerosmith!
February 18th, 2008 at 8:12 am
THANK GOD. Now I don’t have to listen to another podcast (that will go un-named,) that I usually listen to, but cant stand to hear it fade away into dullsville (population: Me.) Someone up there above me mentioned getting Carrie and Bob ect to join in. SERIOUSLY. That would be awesome…..just please get a certain skype call from a New England man, who’s last name might or might not rhyme with scallop. Stitch Scallop. Make it happen, PLEASE! I miss that guy so much. Good work dudes, thanks a lot.
February 18th, 2008 at 8:13 am
Great podcast, I’m guessing Alex will be next weeks guest.
February 18th, 2008 at 8:14 am
OMG YES FINALLY A PODCAST I CAN RELATE TO

February 18th, 2008 at 8:16 am

February 18th, 2008 at 8:30 am
Brilliant! Can’t wait to download this. I can easily see this going to the top of my podcast listening.
February 18th, 2008 at 8:35 am
Yaaaaaaaay! talk about a blast from the past, albeit an abrupt past. It’s merely awesome hearing from you guys in such a short notice …
Man, keep up the good work!!
February 18th, 2008 at 8:40 am
One word, Awesome! I’m glad to see that even though Ryan Davis isn’t at Gamespot anymore, his awesomeness (yeah it’s a word) lives on.
February 18th, 2008 at 9:37 am
Niiiiccce.
February 18th, 2008 at 9:42 am
Very nice guys. Get Alex on it and you guys got a podcast.
February 18th, 2008 at 9:51 am
welcome back guys
hope to hear more podcasts from you
February 18th, 2008 at 9:52 am
If you do a weekly version of this, you should do a feature where you call the hotspot.
February 18th, 2008 at 9:55 am
It is so great to hear your craziness in podcast form, like it was meant to be. Get Rich Gallup (with skype, location is not a problem, even though audio distortion is) on there, if Curt Schilling will let him talk “off the record” like that…
February 18th, 2008 at 10:07 am
Great Podcast, this podcast is great for those of us with A.D.D. since you guys were all over the place. It was pretty damn awesome. Can’t wait for guests and Pythons. Jeff and Ryan awesome show, great job.
February 18th, 2008 at 10:48 am

February 18th, 2008 at 2:53 pm
WOW, this just made my day, please please do one every week, oh yea, rich and alex would be outstanding.
February 18th, 2008 at 2:53 pm
Amazing music in the beginning. I know your recording equipment is pretty ghetto compared to GameSpot’s, but the sound quality ain’t so hot. Regardless, this is awesome and please keep doing it.
February 18th, 2008 at 2:57 pm
Wahey! a podcast!!! from you two !!! wicked, downloading now and cant wait
happy to see you guys back in the saddle as it were
February 18th, 2008 at 3:07 pm
Excellent! Very pleased to hear about this. I very much enjoy the GameSpot podcast and this seems like a continuation/evolution of that in many ways. Thank you lots.
February 18th, 2008 at 3:07 pm
Ryan,
your integrity and professionalism (no, really) in the face of real world, real life, economic dependency, is a shining example to us all! More power to you.
So, game journalism’s biggest… names… reunited to entertain us in lofi, podcast splendor – Ambassador, you’re spoiling us
But seriously, I have to admit it’s great to hear your re-united, dulcet tones chewing the fat together once again. The Gatorade diatribe was a tad challenging though… Even as an ardent fan, prepared to hang on every word from G*m*sp*t’s shining lights, I’d ask you to self edit just a little… but don’t cut out gems like the culturally crucial and incitful discusion of GGW… oh heck, best not edit anything, after all.
Anyway, all the best from a follower / fan in the cynical UK.
P.S Shame on you for censoring the obligatory ‘goodbye Ryan’ montage! As a fairly recent ‘on the spot’ convert (suckered in by your combined wits, no less) I was looking forward to the humilating and hilarious round up of your ‘best bits’ (and worst fashion moments)LOL.
February 18th, 2008 at 3:12 pm
Can’t wait to listen! I don’t know about the rights to anything, but… I would love to finally see Time Trotters!
February 18th, 2008 at 3:19 pm
Hey guys, please keep this up. It was great. And while your at it, making outlandish claims about what to expect for next week’s podcast, can you please include ninjas in diapers?
February 18th, 2008 at 3:22 pm
please keep doing this!
i was truly sad when the voices i loved to hear for so long (i was the kind of guy who used to listen to the old gamespot podcasts twice) started dropping from gamespot one by one, i am delighted to hear you guys are alive and well, get a third regular guy (maybe alex navarro?) and you got an awesome podcast.
you guys have great personalities so i am sure you’ll pick up traffic in non time.
congrats!
February 18th, 2008 at 3:28 pm
We wants more
February 18th, 2008 at 3:40 pm
How’s the sound quality? If it’s too quiet, I don’t wanna DL it. I listen to podcasts at work in an industrial area and my bandwidth is limited.
February 18th, 2008 at 3:42 pm
You should get Alex in on this. Great to hear you both talking about awesome stuff like gatorade, GDC and the like cause it really hits up that rush I used to get from listening to the Gamespot podcast.
February 18th, 2008 at 3:47 pm
nice show guys. I’ll have to keep an eye on your blogs more frequently now. Looks like you guys are ready to take the gaming interwebs over again.
February 18th, 2008 at 4:24 pm

February 18th, 2008 at 6:46 pm
I cannot get enough of Jeff. I could listen to him for hours…he is my video game version of Kevin Smith . Chubby, funny, and loveable. I wish he and Carrie would do a podcast weekely. But hey, Ryan is the hairy Carrie and i love him too. MORE!
February 18th, 2008 at 7:19 pm
Great, been waiting for this since I unsubscribed to the Gamespot podcast. I just couldn’t stand listening too it with everyone I cared about gone.
February 18th, 2008 at 7:34 pm
Completely mindblowing podcast. I put this on going to bed thinking I´d be falling asleep about 30-40 minutes in or so. No such luck. It ended up being so completely hilarious throughout that I constantly woke myself up from the “almost sleeping” state with hysterical laughter causing me to bounce or jiggle around in my bed. This eventually leading to it getting very warm in there and soon enough I was wide awake lust lying there listening until it finally stopped so I could get some sleep.
Completely awesome podcast. I will not make the mistake of trying to fall asleep to it again. Its way to hysterically rambly for that. Its so random you really wanna know what the hell you´re going to say next. Theres no way you can stop listening.
I will say tho, I found the Peter Molyneux bashing to be just WRONG. I have so much respect for that man and I think that the Molyneux flaming isnt at ALL funny anymore. I completely admire his passion for the craft and I learned years and years ago that it is his passion talking and not reason. And thats why he is one of the most interesting people you can listen to. On a Molyneux sidenote I also strongly believe that Fable 2 will be everything he wants it to be.
And Ryan Davis, the DAMN DOG seems completely awesome from What I´ve seen of it and I do not doubt we will see it in the full game.
We owe so much to Peter Molyneux I feel sad inside when I hear people talking about him like Ryan did in this podcast.
I suggest you make an offical apology in the next podcast.
Other than that. Great work. This combined with some regular videocontent from this blog right here will be frikkin sweet!
February 18th, 2008 at 7:53 pm
I can totally see ex-GS members creating their own game show from one of their houses. I would like to see a large TV on a empty desk with Rich on it hosting a game show from his east coast house. Jeff can sit on a ghetto broken couch and Ryan stand behind a kitchen counter. Then Alex can run from the couch to the kitchen counter every time you want to change to a different game. The more ghetto the better.
February 18th, 2008 at 7:55 pm
I love Gatorade. Hope they have these tiger woods flavor in Canada. Got to check it out.
Oh yeah, the podcast was great
February 18th, 2008 at 8:05 pm
Well it’s about time gentlemen
Steven
February 18th, 2008 at 8:26 pm
Finally getting to hear what I want and not just some dorks talking about what their told to take about!!
. Listened to all the Hotspots from Gamespot and w/o jeff/ryan(and Rich) it got boring as hell!
February 18th, 2008 at 8:33 pm
Btw, Kari Wuhrer’s breast implants are gone. Sorry to be the one to tell you this.
February 18th, 2008 at 8:59 pm
Great show!
When can I buy the DVD?
February 18th, 2008 at 9:20 pm
That was fucking awesome. Ryan, you were the last leg that the Hotspot had left, the reason why I would still listen to that show after Jeff had gone. It’s good to see you two putting this together. Especially now that you don’t limitations to what you can talk about. Three cheers for conversations about gatorade!
Oh, and I totally dig G2, the grape flavor is pretty rad.
February 18th, 2008 at 9:28 pm
Guys it is so nice to hear from you tougether again.
I wish you guys the best and just know that i will follow you.
Thanks for podcasting again
Now we want to add Alex to the mix.:)
February 18th, 2008 at 9:30 pm
Awesome! I loved it. Keep it up.
February 18th, 2008 at 9:33 pm
Took you long enough, I’ve been waiting for the day you 2 got together to make a gaming website/podcast. Now get Richie G and you’ll be set, cheers guys.
February 18th, 2008 at 9:44 pm
Awesome! I have to wait till I get back from school before I hear it.
February 18th, 2008 at 9:52 pm
I got a GGW dvd and I watched it once. The girls are so dumb and the camera guy just keep asking the same girl to show her boobs until she does then ask to see them again.
February 18th, 2008 at 9:56 pm
Pure greatness. Can’t wait for the next episode, and I hope Rich or Alex will be a part of it.
February 18th, 2008 at 10:02 pm
Hey guys. It’s SO great to see you working together, I was expecting this to happen and I’m very excited that I was right! I am hoping that all of you who used to be part of GS will get together and do your own thing, as I’m sure many many others do too. I appreciate all of your hard work, humor and dedication to this industry, as well as us fans. Thank you guys, thank you so much!
February 18th, 2008 at 10:22 pm
I can already tell this is going to take off in a big way. If this actually becomes weekly and if you manage to get guests like Rich Gallup you will get hella listeners in no time.
February 18th, 2008 at 10:40 pm
GREAT GREAT GREAT PODCAST! It is so good, I had to type in capital letters! With an exclamation!
We need more reviews on food & beverages; I missed you guys talking about the insanity known as Oreo Pizzas & such.
February 18th, 2008 at 11:10 pm
awesomeness. the start of something beautiful
February 19th, 2008 at 12:00 am
This was really a fun offtopic podcast.
February 19th, 2008 at 12:11 am
OMFG! YES! YOU GUYS ROCK!!
damn Rich and his job…
if Rich comes back it’ll be like old times, oh, and you could bring in Alex as a guest too… maybe
It’ll be like an audio version of On The Spot!!! Instead of, yaknow… “that show that Gamespot does that is NOT On The Spot”
and that should definitely be it’s new official title!! Without Rich Gallup, Jeff Gerstmann, Alex Navarro, or Ryan Davis, it is just NOT On the Spot… not even close…
Thanks for the awesome podcast, you guys have made the internet safe once again… now to spread this link to all of my friends… Arrow Pointing Down 4 life!
February 19th, 2008 at 12:29 am
That was GREAT! I hope this is weekly or something
February 19th, 2008 at 12:54 am
This is awesome. The Ryan and Jeff made the hotspot great and now the magic is back, but better than ever because they can say whatever they want and talk about whatever they want.
Your guest should be Greg or Rich or Alex!
February 19th, 2008 at 2:39 am
GREAT PODCAST GUYS KEEP IT UP!!
February 19th, 2008 at 2:50 am
Is this for real or am I dreaming? Someone pinch me, please. Jeff and Ryan are the two coolest, slightly obese, people.. EVER.
February 19th, 2008 at 3:26 am
Keep it coming. I look forward to everything you have in the works it hasn’t been the same with out you.
February 19th, 2008 at 3:36 am
More…!
February 19th, 2008 at 3:41 am
This is great, I can’t wait for more from you guys. I hate to bring up the Hotspot but towards the end there it didn’t pack the punch it used to, i believe you guys are the reason why.
Nicely done lads.
February 19th, 2008 at 3:45 am
Brilliant, absolutely brilliant. Please get Rich to join in and maybe others that people have mentioned.
Looking forward to the next one
February 19th, 2008 at 4:55 am
Didn’t take you long, did it? Glad you did though, as the hotspot has definitely lost something (obviously characters, such as yourselves)…
Kudos – you’ve got another another dedicated listener.
February 19th, 2008 at 5:14 am
Ryan + Jeff = Gold
February 19th, 2008 at 5:27 am
Posted this on your blog and posting it here I am so glad your still around giving us that idle chatter we sorely need.
Thank you, Thank you. I still sorely miss the Hotspot and will put this on my player post-haste. Keep it up Jeff us Nerds need you.
February 19th, 2008 at 6:18 am
Awesome has found a new definition.
February 19th, 2008 at 6:25 am
Very cool podcast.
The talk about chocolate bars or whatever it was at the beginning was tedious, but every tech-related was very good.
Too bad the sound was somewhat aukward.
Could you please distribute these through iTunes? I like having all my podcast through one channel.
Thanks.
February 19th, 2008 at 7:06 am
good to hear ya podcasting again jeff!
i hope this is a taster for things to come.
February 19th, 2008 at 7:34 am
Good to hear you guys back on the podcasting again. Can’t say I see the draw of Gatorade but the rest of it was interesting.
The Molyneux hate is a bit uncalled for I think. Yes the guy thinks out loud too much and gets publicly excited about things that may or may not end up in the final game, but at least he’s trying to push the medium and is honestly enthusiastic about it. The Fable 2 dog seems to me like a solid step forward in believable character interaction, something games are still seriously behind in. Who gives a crap about normal maps if you can’t empathize with the characters and interact with them in interesting and NEW(!) ways? I say the guy gets points for making the effort. While he may not achieve all the things he aims for he does some, making important contributions to the medium.
Looking forward to next week’s ishdition.
February 19th, 2008 at 7:52 am
Am downloading right now! Put that site together already!
February 19th, 2008 at 8:43 am
I can relate to you guys I recently became jobless and am trying to kick that sleep habit too. Staying up until 4AM & Waking up at 1 is so fulfilling yet so loserish… But, doing nothing is frickin’ priceless.
At least you guys are podcasting.
February 19th, 2008 at 8:49 am
Great podcast; it’s really entertaining. Convince Rich to participate as a regular. It will be great.
February 19th, 2008 at 9:04 am
Awesome, as a weekly listener to the hotSpot this is exactly the noise that I have been missing.
Keep it up guys!
February 19th, 2008 at 9:49 am
where did you get the gatorade tiger at a big store or anywhere
February 19th, 2008 at 10:10 am
Dam, you guys sure now how to please us.
February 19th, 2008 at 10:59 am
If you heard this podcast-skypechat-audioblog-thing, in the future when your great great grandchildren ask, you can say … “I was there. When it all began. I was there.”
February 19th, 2008 at 11:27 am
Yes! Dream come true!
Great podcast. Thanks, guys.

So what were you rolling? eh Ryan
February 19th, 2008 at 1:28 pm
I’m sure both of you have heard about the trademarking of DJ Hero; didn’t somebody say that like 2 or 3 years ago on a podcast you were on previously?
February 19th, 2008 at 2:34 pm
These guys are family. I can’t imagine them not doing what they do without each other.
February 19th, 2008 at 4:19 pm
Dug the show a lot. PLEASE get Rich and/or Alex and/or Carrie on the show. If all five of you got together for a regular show it would INSTANTLY become the best podcast I listen to.
Please!
February 19th, 2008 at 4:29 pm
Will there be an e-mail thing for questions?
February 19th, 2008 at 5:18 pm
good stuff, definitely going to listen to these from now on
February 19th, 2008 at 5:21 pm
a podcast where you talk about games and gatarode
THE GAMORADE PODCAST
February 19th, 2008 at 6:12 pm
It was cool hearing about how DICE is all about some treehouse club of game developers handing awards out to each other. I totally forgot about that, none of the game sites (Well, Gamespot and 1up) are talking about it from that angle.
Hey- That was a bit of a snarkfest that part about Peter Molyneux.
Get Rich Gallup, I want to hear if it’s true that he’s been playing CoD4 non-stop for THIS LONG.
February 19th, 2008 at 6:13 pm
Oh and the parts that weren’t about games were allright.
February 19th, 2008 at 7:58 pm
Jeff n Ryan i missed you guys i ever stopped going to gamespot because of it, i always enjoyed on the spot and your reviews keep this coming. how bout a video round circle with more people chillin n stuff. since no gamespot make it raw and uncensored
February 19th, 2008 at 8:00 pm
This. Is. Amazing. Keep them coming. It’s like peggle in audioform…Maybe upload to iTunes?
February 19th, 2008 at 8:12 pm
A million times yes.
I’m really glad to see you guys have put this together. Haven’t listened yet so here I go.
February 19th, 2008 at 8:16 pm
BTW, is that FRENCH under your blog name or are you just trying to court Jade Raymond.
(Montreal in da house mes amis, vous sommes les meilleurs de hotspot, pauvre Brad et Vinny ‘beaucoup damour’, peut etre ils viendrais un jour)
February 19th, 2008 at 8:18 pm

Great to see & hear you guys. Keep it going.
If you build it, we will cum!
February 19th, 2008 at 11:54 pm
Dudes, great podcast but record the soundtracks locally and put them together in the editing phase. The sound quality will improve drastically
February 20th, 2008 at 12:24 am
Thank you for the podcast. Freakin’ sweet!
February 20th, 2008 at 12:49 am
Excellent news, love the show guys, please keep it up!!!
February 20th, 2008 at 2:47 am
This is just awesome. Keep this going guys!

February 20th, 2008 at 2:59 am

February 20th, 2008 at 5:24 am
YEAH!! Start your own gamespot!
February 20th, 2008 at 5:31 am
.. get some pointers from rich about giving the thing some structure. Besides that lack of the mentioned, it was nice to “see” you two together.
February 20th, 2008 at 6:43 am
Overall it was good, but not as amazing as some of the people above seem to think it was.
It was just a little rough around the edges. Cut out some of the waffle and be a little more focused and you’d have a stronger show in my opinion.
Having more input/members would be the main benefit though, as 2 heads is better than 1, 3 is better than 2..and so on.
I’m not slagging the beta off either, overall it was good, just a little constructive criticism.
February 20th, 2008 at 6:45 am
My arrow was pointing down, but now it’s pointing UP!
February 20th, 2008 at 7:17 am
omg! you totally said fuck!
Still pretty used to language filter on Gamespot.
Great podcast. gief more.
February 20th, 2008 at 8:04 am
Oh and I think you guys were misunderstanding the term “emergent gameplay”. It’s not about some new trend “emerging” in the games industry – EMERGE! – or a meaningless term leveraging synergies. It’s about cause and effect in gameplay and new and unscripted situations arising from the basic rules of the game…
example: stuff what happens in games like Spore, Half Life 2, The Sims, Deus Ex, etc.
February 20th, 2008 at 8:06 am
It’ll never work! Turn back now!
February 20th, 2008 at 8:27 am
This is awesome!
February 20th, 2008 at 9:18 am
Very cool guys. Very cool. Now all I need are for you two to join the 1up guys at 1up Yours and then it’s a MEGAPARTY
February 20th, 2008 at 10:12 am
hey, i love the gatorade. also i was in that hip sleeping schedule where i was sleeping at 5 am every day and waking up at like 1 pm in the afternoon. its ok for like a week but it i got nothing done.
February 20th, 2008 at 10:30 am
I was so angry when Jeff left and then when Alex and Ryan left I wondered if Gamespot would ever be the same. You guys made Gamespot what it was. But it’s great to see you guys back together and I hope this becomes a weekly or fortnightly thing.
February 20th, 2008 at 10:47 am
Great to see you guys doing a podcast again. Lookin’ forward to next week.
Also, that bit on Girls Gone Wild cracked me up. Well done, sirs.
February 20th, 2008 at 11:13 am
loving it …yes get rich and maybe bob and greg !! the podcast is back!!
February 20th, 2008 at 11:45 am
You should get all the old guys back together, Rich, Greg, Alex, Carrie… would be awesome ^_^
February 20th, 2008 at 1:58 pm
I cant get enough of you guys! You guys should be bigger than gaming!
February 20th, 2008 at 2:19 pm
I was very happy to hear you guys started a podcast (Via Kotaku). I think you should invite the other fired Gamespotters onto the show once and a while, and will listen to this episode tomorrow. Thanks guys!
February 20th, 2008 at 2:22 pm
You guys are awesome, keep doing what you’re doing.
You guys and Navarro is everything good that ‘on the spot’ was.
February 20th, 2008 at 2:50 pm
Hey guys,
Love your podcast. Can you now please just go ahead and make a small gaming website to compete with GAmespot and quit fucking around.
-Everyone wants it
-Everyone needs it
-You have a automatic fanbase straight out ‘da blocks
-It’s there for the taking boys, please give us what we want before the momentum dies down.
February 20th, 2008 at 2:54 pm
thanks guys. And keep building.
February 20th, 2008 at 3:53 pm
I don’t think the guys were really hating on Peter M. It sounds like they certainly like the guy enough. And let’s face it, Pete’s got form in this respect. He’s always been an emphatically embellishing salesman, even from the first job they got (the famous Taurus / Torus story). To me, it just sounded like what my group of friends do when we rib each other over something stupid we did or said. So they may have laid it on a bit thick, but let’s just say it was for ‘comedy purposes’.
Anyway, some other points:
Awesome intro and outro tunes – the oldskool cheese was dripping deliciously off them!
Loved hearing how spontaneously shambolic the whole thing was.
Over 12 minutes of Gatorade talk? Go figure, for me it wasn’t as dull as it sounds. I think this actually highlights what I liked about the podcast: that it WASN’T just about games. It genuinely sounded like two mates talking everyday crap, obviously with some talk about games chucked in because it’s a part of their lives. Just like I’d do with my friends. While we talk about new tunes we’ve heard, restaurants we’ve eaten at and television shows we forgot to record, the subject of games will always come up.
Oh, and an hilarious coda with the ever-growing pile of podcast promises…
Not bad for a first effort. Keep it going, guys!
February 20th, 2008 at 4:02 pm
Awsome guys! i really liked the shoo’
February 20th, 2008 at 5:16 pm

February 20th, 2008 at 5:21 pm
Great show great to hear you guys together again in a podcast.
February 20th, 2008 at 5:42 pm
What an excellent start, guys. Very nice. So.. with a post start like that you know I’m actually here to say something completely at the other end of the spectrum. I’ll get right to it — here come the critique.
No hate or actual critique, just .. you should definitely both record your own end of the audio only, and then combine the two audio files afterwards. Much better resulting audio for the second guy.. obviously.
As half the audio of this first one was a little painful, purely because of the quality.
Looking forward to the next one.
February 20th, 2008 at 6:26 pm
Nice podcast, bring in Rich and it’s the glory days all over again.
February 20th, 2008 at 7:29 pm
Awesome, hopefully this will be a weekly show.
February 21st, 2008 at 4:50 am
YES!!! A return of the greatest gaming duo, love the podcast and I hope it goes only up from here on in! BTW where you guys working now?
February 21st, 2008 at 8:05 am
Hey Ryan.
It’s great to see you back in action with your new podcast. Sharing the feeling with other posts here, it’s great to hear you and Jeff together again in what we have gotten so used to you guys doing over the years. Keep on going guys, you’re doing great!

February 21st, 2008 at 1:32 pm
Awesome stuff. Please keep it up. Loved every minute of it.
February 21st, 2008 at 2:12 pm
This is blissful, almost dreamy news. My eyes almost welled up. Im gonna pinch my self now…
you get rich back as the topdog and ill kiss you for england. (even if it means rich is gonna be 1000s of miles away when recording the podcast, you could make it work with the internet…)
The reasoning behind the whole exodus is manifesting itself now…

February 22nd, 2008 at 8:33 am
Awesome podcast. LOVE IT! For a future podcast I think you should get Rich and Alex to do a show, kick it old school style.
February 22nd, 2008 at 11:34 am
Awesome podcast! Some good laughs.
So what is everyone doing job wise? I get Jeff is still looking and doing some side stuff. What’s Rich doing? Ryan, did you say you also quit your job? I know Alex quit recently.
Anywho, it’d be cool to get EVERYONE on the show that no longer works at Gamespot or to know what they’re up to.
Keep the podcasts coming!
February 22nd, 2008 at 3:44 pm
It’s good to hear you guys again. Thanks for the show. Please record more!

Keep it up.
February 25th, 2008 at 10:05 am
Forgot to post a comment when I downloaded the podcast. Awesome work guys, I’m looking forward to the next show.
February 27th, 2008 at 11:54 am
Good luck with things guys! We need a truly independent voice in the industry for gamers that wont cave-in to bullshit.
I hope you guys will consider doing something with GamePolitics.com (the ECA). We need a voice for the consumers and you guys are pretty much it. Give it some thought.
February 27th, 2008 at 1:33 pm
Awesome, glad to see you guys are back!
Frankly, it was getting truly depressing each week (though not nearly so much as for you, I’m sure!), waiting for and wanting to listen to the new episode of On the Spot, only for it to just be a constant reminder of the disgustingness that happened, and to see it be a shell of its former self.
Now that I know you guys have this, I think I’ll be dropping the old Hotspot, etc., off my iTunes completely. Best of luck, and keep up the good work!
February 28th, 2008 at 11:26 pm
It’s great hearing you guys together again, I have really missed a weekly show with you chatting about stuff! I hope this will continue. Very interesting and always fun to come along on whatever sidetrack you might take!
March 1st, 2008 at 3:11 pm
HD DVD solution=
1) Buy a Xbox 360 HD drive, now availabe for 50 bucks.
2) Hook the drive up to your PC (make sure that the PC has a video card capable of processing HD movies).
3) Use AnyDVD HD to rip the HD DVDs to your hard drive. Get a program that can play them (such as Power DVD), or expect technology that allows you to burn the files to a blank Blu Ray disc later.
4) Other wise keep the files on a hard drive, and keep the HD DVD movies forever! You can hook up the PC to an HD TV via DVI to HDMI, and it will be great quality…
If you don’t feel like wasting hard drive space right now, you should be able to get a couple of terabytes for cheap in the future (right about when the 360 finally is outdated, and you want to finally put the HD DVD drive out of its misery)
March 2nd, 2008 at 12:41 pm
Really great to hear from you again Jeff, and awesome to know you’ll be sticking around Ryan.
Can’t wait for the next show!
