Lighting the Fuse

March 6, 2008 11:52 am

Today is the soft launch for Giant Bomb (dot com), which is the totally awesome new video-game website that Jeff Gerstmann, myself, and some other highly excellent dudes have been working on in secret. I think Jeff does a good job of introducing Giant Bomb on the site itself, and I urge you to roll over and give it a look. Please keep in mind that this is just the beginning. We have some grand plans for this venture.

On a related note, the Arrow Pointing Down Podcast will be transitioning into the Giant Bomb Podcast over the course of the next week or so. We’ll have a new name, and probably some new theme music, but fear not, it’ll still be the same sidebar-heavy discussions about video games, milkshakes, and the Sylvester Stallone film Cobra.

As cool as Giant Bomb is, you absolutely cannot change the Arrow Pointing Down Podcast theme song. It’s so wonderful and majestic, how can you change it?

  7. I agree with David, DO NOT CHANGE THE THEME!

  8. Believe me, I absolutely *adore* the APD theme music, but its use is a little shady, being pulled from BusinessFunk II by Datashat, which is basically a 40-minute DJ set of music sampled from 70s- and 80s-era educational, instructional, and corporate videos. Don’t worry, though, we’re working on something awesome to take its place when we launch the Giant Bomb Podcast.

The UK gang will be there Ryan. Looking forward to seeing a great new site

  10. You guys are fucking epic.

    Good shit.

  11. That is so sexy in so many ways. I also finally saw some Gatorade: Tiger yesterday. I swear, if there’s such thing as a Falcon Uppercut, he’s perfected it.

  12. Congrats on the site.
More importantly, WHY NEW THEME MUSIC? Just add an explosion to the jazzy tune you’ve been running with and you’re golden. I defy you to create better theme music, but certainly hope you somehow achieve your goal in doing that.

  13. Congrats on the site, but how does anyone think that Cobra is the greatest movie of all time. It’s not even the best Stallone movie ever. In no way does Cobra compare to Over the Top. Both, however, are amazing and have fantastic covers on the dvd cases.

I am loving the new podcast, keep up the good work. If you feel so inclined, I would like to hear your thoughts on Del Taco some time. Yea or Nay as to it’s quality?

  15. I’ll be looking forward to it! Where else on the internet can you get the lowdown in Gatorade products and Video games at the same time? Nowhere! That’s where!

  16. Good luck on the site. We are all supporting you.

  17. HURAYYYY!!!!1111one :)

  18. I was hoping something like this would happen. Congrats, thanks and good luck chaps!

This is the best news I’ve heared online for a really long time! Fashionably late I might add. Best of luck guys! It’s already on my bookmarks list and my home page.

PS: I can’t wait till you get some sort of forum up and running (or a registration system of some sort!)

YEAAH! DROP A GIANT BOMB ON EM’ SON!

  22. and sorry, I gotta say (IMO) you and jeff are terribly wrong about the grateful dead dlc. these are definitely some of the best songs on there right now. great musicianship in that band that translate well to the game especially the guitar. how can you guys think “nevermind” would be worth the money and this pack not? most of the nevermind songs are going to play exactly the same, and I just think playing those songs is going to be extremely repetitive. a bunch of chords and very simple solos. they would be fun to play with friends over some drinks but I don’t think I’d want all those songs. maybe I’d buy a couple of the tracks. I’m not even a big GD fan, but these songs have really been fun. I highly recommend you guys give the pack another chance!

  23. Yay to everything, except changing the theme music. Keep it!

  24. Giant bomb dot com <<<it rhymes
    Catchy

  25. BOOM!!!!

  26. I don’t know what the future holds for you two but I will say this….despite the s**tstorm that went down last year….you guys kept your cool.
From all that I have seen and learnt, this is by far what will give you guys the “edge” (for lack of better words) in your endeavours. All the best and DrTones will be perpetually tuned in;)

Excellent news Ryan, the suspense was killing me! I’m keen to see what kind of behemoth the site will develop into, and like everyone else here, I’ll be along for every step of the ride. Keep it up boys! Remember… the world is watching you!

Another awsomely long podcast about gaming… and more importantly… drinks! I’m gonna have to find some crazy Canadian drink to send your way. I also might send you some “real” beer. Careful though… its high alcoholic percentage will knock you on your ass. Please give me an address to send delightful drinks you way.

  29. Damn, son.

  30. Congrats! I’m super-psyched for this.

  31. Heyoooo!

  32. If you guys transition over to Giant Bomb, what are you planning on doing with your personal blogs?

  33. Woot!!

  34. THANK GOD!!!

  35. I know it’s barely been a while since the soft launch but man….I’m missing some of Sir Laughalot’s humor already:/ C’mon Ryan, say something!! A scream, shout, anecdote…anything!
How about a review of your own on Giant Bomb?

  40. Im speechless….apart from the following few words of encouragment:
Yeah – This is the best news of 2008. GIANT BOMB is going to be my new homepage!

Cant wait to see how the Giant Bomb developes, matures and ‘lays the smack down’…

Im looking Giant Bomb podcast – Keep doing a Questions and Answers section.

A big bunch of flowers to all involved in Giant Bomb.

P.S. Its a great idea to show the process behind “Building a Bomb”.

  41. Great news, hope it’s very successful.

  42. Hey guys,

I was hoping you could answer my question on your next podcast. With the mass exodus at gamespot, and the bankruptcy of Ziff Davis, do you feel that Game journalism is currently in a state of upheaval, and if so, is that a good thing?
    Thanks in advance,

    ontheocho
