AEROSMITH ROCKS THIS WAY and other questionable decisions
February 15, 2008 9:33 amIt’s the morning after the last day, and I was awoken at an ungodly hour by a combination of hangover and girlfriend. Feeling compelled to check email for any bites from PR people or random PayPal donations, I am greeted by a press release for Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, which immediately conspires with the toxins in my body to become an even more resilient SuperHangover. Forget for now the questionable decision to base a full-on retail game around a single band, and let me draw your attention to the headline of this press release:
WORLD RENOWNED RECORDING GROUP AEROSMITH ROCKS THIS WAY TO GUITAR HERO®: AEROSMITH® (bolding added for effect)
The press release itself then goes on to “quote” “Steven Tyler” and “Joe Perry” about this awesome brand-leveraged product licensing opportunity, and massaged/manufactured quotes sits right next to overuse of superlatives on Ryan’s Great Big Bus of Press Release Pet Peeves. Now I realize that writing press releases is not a fine art, and I’m not always the most best goodester of word doers myself, but this (and many, many other) press releases are comprised primarily of superlatives, or superlative-derived products. Using more of them doesn’t make them more effective. You eventually reach a point where it all turns into gibberish, like when you say “blog” too many times. It kinda defeats the purpose of the whole thing.
Here is the first image of Guitar Hero: Aerosmith. I am a little terrified of this unkillable mannequin robot playing the part of Steven Tyler in this game. Is there a raccoon in his hair?

The lesson to be gleaned from this is that you shouldn’t check your email and then hastily write an ill-tempered blog about it when you have a hangover.

I’m going to assume that as part of Red Octane’s deal with Neversoft they are contractually obligated to make all character models look like total ass. That’s the best explanation I could come up with.

Maybe somebody has a thing for Davey Crockett?

Noooo, they’re doing it again. Another game company who is just making new games to a good franchise, but now they are just going to make a million of them, at full price, with no GOOD unique content anymore. Rock The 80’s was okay, but this… this is an atrocity. I wrote an entire blog on this kind of stuff just a couple days ago on GameSpot (nweasel)… *sigh*

nooo! how is this possible?! there is so many great bands out there, why make a GH game for freakin’ Aerosmith? I want a GH-Deep purple, GH-ZZ top or a GH-metallica, not this girly-girl soft-rock shit…

Jeff, Ryan and Alex; the trio addressing the same topic at the same time. I suggest that the three of you use a single website for all your blogs and then, maybe, this will lead to something bigger, a kick ass gaming website for example.

Arrow pointing Down Ryan Davis, I like Aerosmith, but im not going to buy a game just with them in it, if it was downloadable content for GH3, then woo go me, but no, i refuse, no!

Ryan Davis, I don’t feel so good. I feel really bad. I used to trust you for all things happy in this world, but now you have brought grief destruction into my head.

Aerosmith helps me hit up that kind of groove, and Guitar Hero is the s&*^! (sarcasm) Best Hotspot ever.

It’s hard to believe someone so… not that handsome could have a gorgeous daughter like Liv Tyler.

I hate the idea for this game, but, shit, I’m going to buy it anyway. I wants my Geetar Heero!

I thought this couldn’t get any worse. Then I saw the screen shot. Sheesh. Enough to turn a SuperHangover into a SuperHangover2! Am I right?!
Do I hear crickets . . . ?

Wow. I saw that today at the Guitar Hero community site. I swear, I almost died laughing out of pity. Seriously, what’s next, Rock Band: Panic At the Disco? I already have the commercial in my head;
Do you like Guitar Hero?
Yeah!
Do you like tight pants?
Sort of, just as long as they don’t restrict my semen production. But still, excitement!
Do you like games filled with bad hair, crappy vocals, robotic characters, and superlatives?
Not so much!

The idea of following the band through their entire careers is cool but why Aerosmith? :/
